With holiday season fast approaching it is time to book your next summer holiday. We operate the magnificent Tigers Den in Waikawa Bay, Picton located in the Marlborough Sounds (New Zealand).
We would like our reader’s help in order to make your booking of your next holiday or vacation a simple process.
Not until the tables were turned and my family were booking a holiday house, home, lodge, bach , vacation rental, villa (so many names for accommodation) , did we realise how difficult and fraught with traps this holiday home booking process had become. This was emphasised to us by a past guest who commented on our easy and straight forward process. Her comments were “what you saw is what you got….”
Sometimes experiencing the process actually requires you to review your own internal holiday booking procedures and we would welcome your feedback.
Lets start with all the things you may not like about this process and list them in importance.
It may be as simple as differing terminology from one country to another. By way of example we as kiwis refer to a holiday home as a bach yet when Americans go on holiday they choose to go on vacation. There is a vast discrepancy in terms and how these terms relate to reality. What is LUXURY in one persons eye may not be LUXURY in another and expectation of holiday maker’s differ.
To use our holiday search as an example, we trolled through a list of homes with the search criteria we needed…… 4 bedrooms, sleeps 8 people, parking on site, lake access and of course price / budget, e.g $400 night. Just when we thought we had it sorted – out comes the curve ball – the price quoted on the website or booking site is for 2 guests only and all other guests are extra cost. That left me very frustrated and totally not impressed – unexpected and hidden costs.
The other grip /frustration is once we’d found the perfect holiday spot and accommodation, we referred to the availability calendar on the website, confirmed it was available based on the online availability calendar and then made an enquiry. Only to then be informed that the property was in fact not available and our holiday search had resulting in an unsuccessful vacation booking . What a complete waste of time. Not impressed again!!!!!
